My Personal Story…
For nearly a decade, I was in the thick of the fight.
As a social movement journalist, I covered police brutality protests, the Anaheim riots, and Occupy demonstrations. I reported on law enforcement misconduct, Latino immigrant rights, homeless advocacy, and the need to end international wars.
I was seen by the local community as “a voice for the voiceless,” writing cover stories for OC Weekly, getting mentioned on Democracy Now!, co-hosting KPFK’s Uprising as well as reporting on Pacifica Evening News and appearing on the Peabody-winning documentary series Fault Lines.
On the surface, I was making an impact. But inside, I was unraveling.
I was working administrative jobs full time during day, going to school at night and my “off” time was dedicated to reporting.
I spent hours interviewing families of victims of police violence, sitting in their homes, witnessing their grief, and carrying their stories into the public eye. But the weight of these stories never left me.
I wasn’t just reporting—I was absorbing.
And the more I saw, the angrier I became.
My rage wasn’t just about the injustices I witnessed—it was personal.
I grew up with my own painful experiences of police and social services failing to protect me.
The lines between my work and my past blurred.
Every fight against systemic oppression felt like a fight for my younger self, for the times I had felt powerless.
And that fight was relentless.
I drank to cope.
At first, it was just a way to take the edge off.
As the work took its toll, alcohol became my way of numbing the exhaustion, the anger, the grief.
I was repeating a generational pattern—turning to self-medication rather than healing.
And then, I burned out.
Not just physically. Spiritually. Emotionally.
I was pouring everything into the fight and leaving nothing for myself.
So, I chose a different path.
I turned my attention inward.
I committed to healing—not just for myself, but for the generations before and after me.
I shifted my approach to resistance.
Rather than endlessly reporting on the struggles of my community, I started mentoring Latina women.
First, a high school student who was at-risk of joining a gang, then a single mom in substance abuse recovery.
I continued supporting myself with marketing jobs, pivoting away from the social justice community to take care of my financial needs as I volunteered my time in meaningful ways.
Then, something even deeper awakened within me.
I got sober, deepened my relationship with the land, and reconnected with maternal ancestry; particularly my Azorean Portuguese and Chilean indigenous Andean lineages.
I confronted my Mother and Father Wounds, tracing the roots of my anger toward authority figures who had failed me, as well as a deep history of white supremacy in Appalachia and the South on my paternal side.
As I peeled back the layers of my healing, I had a spiritual awakening—one that revealed ancestral trauma I had been carrying in my womb.
It was a trauma passed down through generations of women before me, tied to colonial violence, forced assimilation, and the suppression of our power.
I realized that the pain I carried wasn’t just mine—it was the unhealed grief, fear, and silenced voices of my lineage.
This shifted everything.
I began focusing on healing not just my own wounds, but the wounds of the women in my community.
I turned to ritual work, womb healing, and ancestral practices—guiding Latina women in reconnecting with their bodies, reclaiming their power, and breaking the cycles of trauma that had been passed down for generations.
And through this transformation, I stepped fully into my purpose.
I focused on my own growth, healing, sobriety, and relationship to nature—filling my own cup first so I could truly give back.
And when I did, I realized where my energy was meant to go.
I started a wellness coaching business for entrepreneurs with marginalized identities.
Women who, like me, had carried the weight of generational trauma while trying to change the world.
Women who had poured everything into their communities, their work, their activism—often at the expense of themselves.
That’s why The Joyful Resistance exists.
Because resistance isn’t just about fighting external battles—it’s about healing the internal ones.
It’s about reclaiming our joy, our pleasure, and our right to thrive.
It’s about creating a revolution that includes us, whole and empowered.
And that revolution starts here.
Real change wasn’t just about exposing injustices—it was about strengthening the people within our communities so they could rise up with resilience, not exhaustion.
This isn’t about ignoring the world’s problems or spiritually bypassing the fight.
It’s about building a resistance strategy that includes you—your body, your spirit, and your joy.
Through ecosomatic healing, ancestral wisdom, and earth-based practices, you’ll learn to stand in your power without burning out.
You’ll resist in ways that nourish you, rather than deplete you.
And you’ll reclaim joy—not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of the movement.
Because if we want a better world, we need to be brave enough to experience our own humanity.
We need to take the courage we have to stand up and go within, first.
And that starts with reclaiming our joy as a birthright.
Client Experiences
“When coaching with Amber, I released overworking and brought more micro-pleasures to my life.
I faced the personal and political sides to healing my Mother Wound and came to terms with how much attention I was giving to people who I swore I couldn't stand or didn't care about.
Now, I see myself as a leader in my current circIe. I had this deep seated insecurity that I wanted to escape by escaping who I was, but now I see that I can value who I am right now.
This is a blessing for someone who always believed she needed to be someone and somewhere else.
I quit my soul-sucking chatbot job and went on a retreat where I mostly just slept–and when the guilt and fear showed up, I allowed them.
I am proud that I really kept going. I did not let shame or fear block me. I sat with my annoyance and fear instead of blocking both. I am proud of honoring how I am left of center politically and this is totally where I am supposed to be.”
Hannah, Author and Writing Coach
“Before working with Amber, I struggled with leading the way I wanted to as a creative and spiritual entrepreneur with an ambition to drive positive change.
I felt insecure, yet I felt like I was ready to share my message with an audience bigger than the group coaching programs I was in.
With Amber’s coaching, I was able to dig deeper to come home to my true self so I could move forward & do the amazing things I am meant to do, like my purpose of making a deep impact through my creativity.
Now, when I show up, I feel comfortable & that I am enough.
That enoughness helped me to be happy in my own body & my own skin to show up as myself, while being an advocate for women’s empowerment during a time of political uncertainty.”

Why This Program Works
This isn’t about ignoring the world’s problems or spiritually bypassing the fight. It’s about building a resistance strategy that includes you—your body, your spirit, and your joy.
Through eco-somatic healing, ancestral wisdom, and earth-based practices, you’ll learn to stand in your power without burning out.
You’ll reclaim pleasure as protest, reconnect with what sustains you, and cultivate a grounded resilience. The Joyful Resistance is a space where rest becomes revolution and your presence is a form of power.
This work is for those who feel everything deeply, who carry the weight of collective grief and still dream of a better world.
It’s for the ones who’ve been told they’re too sensitive, too much, too angry—and are ready to transform that fire into fuel.
You’ll learn how to listen to your body’s wisdom, regulate your nervous system, and feel supported by the Earth itself.
This is sacred, strategic healing for the long haul—because sustainable resistance requires pleasure, connection, and care.
You don’t have to choose between showing up for the world and showing up for yourself.
Here, you get to do both.
My Coaching Style
My approach is body-led, spiritually grounded, and rooted in radical self-trust.
I work with rogue leaders and lone wolves—those who’ve carried the weight of the world and are ready to do it differently.
Through somatic healing, Earth-based practices, and intuitive guidance, I help clients regulate their nervous systems, end burnout cycles, and release the grip of comparison and people-pleasing for good.
This isn’t about forcing transformation or chasing accomplishments.
It’s about returning to yourself—your power, your joy, your own timing.
The work is gentle, potent, and deeply personal.
My presence is the method, and your healing leads the way.
Here are some commonly asked questions about The Joyful Resistance:
What if I don’t consider myself an activist?
Resistance takes many forms. If you feel called to show up in any way—whether through community work, writing, art, or energy work—this program will help you do so from a place of strength.
Will this program teach me political strategy?
This isn’t a political education course—it’s a space to help you sustain yourself so you can keep doing the work you’re already called to do.
I struggle with guilt around rest and joy. Will this help?
Yes. A huge part of this journey is releasing guilt and recognizing that your well-being is essential to the movement.
What if I’m in my “soft era” and unsure I can commit to a structured weekly time?
Beautiful. You’re in the perfect place. Somatic work is inherently soft and gentle—it meets you where you are.
This isn’t about pushing or performing. It’s about tuning in, letting your body lead, and allowing the work to work on you, even when you’re resting.
You don’t need to be “on” to receive the benefits. This container supports you in honoring your softness as strength.
I want this, but I’m worried I won’t live up to what others have accomplished through it.
There’s no leaderboard here. Your journey is yours alone, and what emerges from it will be exactly what you need.
Some clients make bold moves. Others make quiet, internal shifts that change everything.
All are equally powerful. You don’t need to match anyone—you just need to show up as yourself. That’s more than enough.
I’ve invested in programs before and either fell flat on my face or felt like the coaching didn’t live up to the hype. Why would this be any different?
You're not alone. Many of my clients arrive with similar wounds—disappointment, self-doubt, and hesitancy around investing again.
What they often find is that this is the investment that clears the fog.
Through being deeply witnessed and engaging in somatic healing, they reconnect with their own inner compass.
They stop outsourcing their worth, stop making decisions from people-pleasing or compare-and-despair, and start investing from self-trust instead of urgency.
This work doesn’t just support your current transformation—it empowers you to make aligned choices long after the container ends.
Are You Ready to Find Joy in the Fight?
You don’t have to choose between resistance and pleasure.
This is your invitation to show up fully—body, spirit, and joy intact.
Your future self is waiting, grounded and clear, no longer running on empty.
A version of you that is rooted in purpose, nourished by joy, and moving through the world with aligned intention.
